DRW Attorney Ellen Henningsen Awarded a 2007 State Bar Pro Bono Award
DRW’s Ellen Henningsen, a Staff Attorney in the Disability Benefit Specialist Program, has been awarded the 2007 Pro Bono Award for a Legal Services Attorney from the State Bar of Wisconsin. This award is given to honor an attorney who provides legal services to low-income populations, helps increase the accessibility of legal services, and promotes pro bono service for Wisconsin lawyers.
Here’s an excerpt from Elder Law Consultant Betsy Abramson’s nomination of Ellen which sums up the breadth and depth of her legal work: “Ellen has spent over 30 years as a lawyer representing public interest causes and clients. She has worked for agencies in issues of labor, public benefits, guardianship, protective services, advance directives, abuse of vulnerable adults, Medicare Fraud and women’s rights. She has worked for the Wisconsin Education Association Council, the Wisconsin Women’s Network, the Department of Justice, the Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups and now Disability Rights Wisconsin. She litigates, lobbies, provides individual representation, has advocated before administrative agencies, has written consumer and professional educational materials and has trained thousands of lawyers and non-lawyers, mentored law students and is an active community volunteer.”
Congratulations, Ellen, on this well-deserved award!
