The Wisconsin State Legislature has approved a bill mandating insurance coverage of hearing aids and cochlear implants for children. DRW’s Executive Director, Lynn Breedlove, says, “This is a great win for kids with hearing impairments. In the next 10 years, many kids’ lives will be greatly impacted by this new law.”
DRW Advocacy Specialist Alicia Boehme was a leading force in this effort. She mobilized parents of children with hearing impairments and worked with several legislators during the long fight to get the measure passed.
Governor Doyle signed the bill into law on Thursday, May 21.
A big “Thank You” to all the advocates who contacted their legislators and the governor to support SB 27. Wisconsin is now the first state in the nation to offer such coverage!
