Disability Rights Wisconsin Urges Renewed Focus on Employment & Independence for People with Disabilities
Disability Rights Wisconsin supports the Department of Health Services’ renewed focus on improving employment outcomes for people with disabilties in Medicaid funded programs. A December 13 report from DHS to the Legislature on Family Care outlines several new Department initiatives to increase integrated employment rates as a means to both improve an individual’s health status and reduce reliance on publicly funded supports. DRW sees this is a positive step.
DRW recently wrote to DHS Secretary Kitty Rhoades sharing concerns about the state’s lagging employment outcomes and encouraging a shift in use of Medicaid dollars as the state renews its Medicaid waivers with the federal government.
