Medicare Annual Open Enrollment Period October 15 – December 7

It’s October and now is the time to start thinking about your Medicare prescription drug coverage for 2017.

The Annual Enrollment Period for Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage Plans runs from October 15 through December 7.  All Medicare beneficiaries who are enrolled in a Part D prescription drug plan or a Medicare Advantage Plan should look at their plan to ensure it is still the best deal for them.  In most cases, changes must take place by December 7, 2016. Those who have Medicare and Medicaid can take until December 31 to consider making changes to their Part D plan.

Each year insurance companies make changes to their plans.  They can change the premiums, deductibles, co-insurance amounts and the drugs they cover.  So even if you have not had changes to your medications and your current plan worked well for you this year, it may not be the ideal plan for you next year.  Spending time reviewing your options could save you hundreds of dollars in the upcoming year.  All Medicare beneficiaries are encouraged to evaluate their plans.

There are 22 Part D prescription drug plans available for enrollment in Wisconsin.  The best way to find the plan that will give you the greatest value and coverage is to use the online plan finder tool found on the www.medicare.gov website. If you need assistance, individual consultation is available. Call the Medicare Part D Disability Drug Benefit Helpline at 1-800-926-4862 to schedule an appointment or to speak to someone on the telephone.

Do yourself a favor and review your Medicare Drug plan today!  December 7 is the last day to make changes!
