For Immediate Release: January 17, 2011

Seven leading statewide aging and disability advocacy organizations have issued a harsh letter to members of the Wisconsin Senate – calling their lead bill – SB 1 – a piece of legislation that protects abusers of vulnerable individuals. In this letter the organizations outline various real-life scenarios of abuse and neglect of persons with disabilities and the elderly and explain to legislators how their intent to reform how lawsuits are resolved in Wisconsin may have serious unintended consequences. The letter which was distributed to members of the Senate and the media prior to the Senate’s vote on January 18 is attached here.
