Advocacy Issues

Disability Rights Wisconsin (DRW) operates a statewide helpline to help people with disabilities and their families or guardians with the complicated Medicare prescription drug benefit, often referred to as “Medicare Part D.” There are over 50 different Medicare Part D prescription insurance plans to choose from in Wisconsin. Each plan has a different pharmacy network, cost structure, and list of covered drugs. In addition, the program works differently for people who have both Medicare and Medicaid benefits – as many people with disabilities in Wisconsin do. Choosing between plans and understanding how a particular plan should work can be overwhelming.

Advocacy Strategies

DRW’s Part D helpline, the disability drug benefit helpline, is a reliable source of accurate information and assistance with:

  • Choosing a Part D plan or deciding whether to enroll in Part D at all
  • Changing plans
  • Appeal procedures
  • Billing problems

The helpline staff are also available to provide training and materials to help explain Medicare Part D. You can reach the helpline at 1-800-926-4862.
