Karen M. Lane is an Advocacy Specialist with Disability Rights Wisconsin. She has been a part of Disability Rights Wisconsin Violence Against Women with Disabilities and Deaf Women Project for 15 years and is an advocate with DRW’s Victim of Crime Program.
Karen identifies as a person with a disability. Prior to her work with DRW, she worked in mental health services. She has served on many local and statewide mental health related committees. She has worked hard to address the silence around the high prevalence of violence experienced by people with disabilities. She is the recipient of the Jim Maddox Peer of the Year 2014 Iris Award by NAMI Wisconsin for her outstanding work on behalf of mental health consumers in the State of Wisconsin. When not working, Karen enjoys gardening, writing, kayaking, plant walks, and creating art
