Wisconsin Equal Justice Fund 2019 Awards

Lea Kitz, Shirin Cabraal, and Lisa Foley

Congratulations to Disability Rights Wisconsin’s Shirin Cabraal and Lisa Foley, who were both honored with the Distinguished Service Award at the Wisconsin Equal Justice Fund’s Howard B Eisenberg Lifetime Achievement Award Dinner in Milwaukee on Saturday, November 2.  Legal Action of Wisconsin’s David Pifer received the Howard B. Eisenberg Lifetime Achievement Award.  At the dinner, keynote speaker Don Verrilli, former U.S. Solicitor General, gave a stirring speech about the importance of ensuring all people in all circumstances have access to justice. To that ideal WEJF raises funds to support the three largest civil legal services programs in Wisconsin: Disability Rights Wisconsin, Legal Action of Wisconsin, and Wisconsin Judicare.  Wisconsin is one of only two states (the other being Mississippi) that do not provide state sponsored financial support for civil legal services.  We thank the 2019 donors, which included numerous law firms, individuals and corporate donors, for their generous support. DRW expresses special thanks to Wisconsin Equal Justice Fund Board President Michael Levey for his dedicated leadership, and to WEJF’s Executive Director Melissa Sullivan, who created a lovely evening of celebration of this important work and continues to generate funds year round.
